Mark brings over 25 years of physiotherapy experience to Balmain Sports Medicine, 17 of those as a director of a busy inner west practice.
Originally from Melbourne, Mark was fortunate enough to play AFL for Richmond Tigers for 4 years whilst studying physio, graduating from Latrobe University in 1993. After working overseas for 5 years, he settled in Sydney with his family and took a senior partnership at Lilyfield Physio.
It was during his time here that his interest in exercise and public health evolved and he crafted an approach to assessment and teaching that proved popular with the local community and beyond.
He has a special interest in and talent for assisting those in pain to overcome fear and return to the activities they love, and to help the exercise-averse to realise the joy of healthy movement.
He has designed and run Men’s Health groups for many years as well as back pain programs and ‘Fitness for the Garden’ (as seen in Gardening Australia ABC), amongst other ventures. He also takes trail and road running groups.
He has found trail/mountain running to be a great substitute for the challenge (and pain!) of AFL, so he turned too ultra-marathons over the last 7-8 years (50 and 100km distances)
