Remedial Massage is used for the rehabilitation of soft tissue injuries, musculoskeletal imbalances, neuromuscular holding patterns (caused by poor postural and work habits), and maintenance of chronic pain.
Remedial massage uses specific techniques including Trigger Point Therapy, Myofascial Release, Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) and advanced stretching to return your soft tissues structures to their normal resting lengths.
Remedial massage can assist in ensuring the body is able to function at its optimum level, free of what can be quite debilitating muscular pain caused by your 'day-to-day' activities.
Sports massage can work for anyone who is active, from the recreational athlete to the elite athlete. By targeting oneís most troublesome body parts, sports massage helps to improve performance, increase range and quality of movement, and prevent injury.
Sports massage can be used effectively to treat conditions such as tendonitis, strains, sprains, and muscle / fascial adhesions. Sports massage can also be used in conjunction with training schedules and conditioning programs to enhance performance, aid in recovery from competition and reduce the risk of injuries occurring.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep Tissue Massage is a massage technique that focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. It aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the fibres of the muscles, tendons and fascia.
The process of the Deep Tissue Massage aims to restructure the muscular system by re-positioning muscles, tendons and ligaments that may have become bunched and shortened. By realigning the body, habitual patterns of tension and stress accumulated by todayís lifestyle may be released. In addition to improved posture, other benefits include pain relief, increased energy and an improved sense of relaxation and well-being.
Pregnancy Massage uses a combination of Swedish and Remedial Massage techniques to assist with the tensions and pains experienced during pregnancy.
There are many physical benefits to Pregnancy Massage in addition to the nurturing and emotional support provided by the practitioner. Massage reduces peripheral swelling, soothes the nervous system, helps to prevent insomnia, muscle cramps, and back / neck pain. At Balmain Sports Medicine we use the Belly Pillow, which is the ultimate pregnancy pillow, as it allows a pregnant woman to lie on her front, ease pressure on her back and lets her have a massage throughout her whole pregnancy! Massage can also be performed lying on her side with special pillows and bolsters. Regular massage throughout the pregnancy is also said to shorten labour time and the return to optimal fitness after birth.
Swedish massage can relieve fatigue, reduce tension, calm the nervous system and promote relaxation to give you a sense of renewed energy.
It can help maintain muscles in an optimum state of nutrition, flexibility and vitality whilst relieving muscle tightness and stiffness that may restrict full movement. Techniques used are flowing and rhythmic, and the pressure is suited to your individual preference or needs.
